Equine Affaire ~ Sunday Demo

The last day! What a week it has been so far. This morning I made sure to get there early and take Douwe for a walk over to the Mallory building. I didn't want to be overly confident that he would do well in this new arena. It is smaller with the audience sitting on bleachers close to the pvc railing. It is a very different atmosphere from the coliseum arena. I walked him over at 8:00 and it was closed! One other person was waiting for security to open the doors and we also had to wait for the arena to be dragged. But I got the opportunity to walk him around and familiarize him with the ring. He seemed pretty relaxed and enjoyed getting his treats while standing in the "scary" corners. It was warmer today and he was pretty relaxed while we practiced in the warm-up with Lydia. We had a little more room to play with the veil and there were less people in the breed demo so we also had the ring to ourselves. I was so pleased with Douwe today, he performed his spanish walk and let Lydia take the veil over his head, a move that requires him to stand still. He was too tense on Saturday to do these moves in the coliseum so I didn't even ask for them. But today he stayed with me and really seemed to enjoy the performance. Thank you to Elisha Harvey for videotaping our ride and for all her hard work helping me pack up the trailer, booth, and drive us back to Maine. We arrived home at 1:30 in the morning...definitely a long day! httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=km4mtVmm1ps&feature=player_embedded
