Today I started teaching Douwe to stand up on a wooden pedestal. It is used to trick train a horse, commonly seen in the circus. It is a helpful tool to teach a horse to step up into a trailer and to be more aware of where their feet are. Douwe figured out how to stand on it with his front legs in two short sessions. The pedestal can be used to help a horse learn to stretch and bow because their front end is elevated, making it easier to reach between the front legs. Marsha got a few training videos from Ebay by Alan Pogue. Check out his website at: http://www.imagineahorse.com/ We watched the first two videos, they were very good! He pays close attention to the horse's needs and breaks it down into simple steps.
